Overview MinIO AIStor supports keeping multiple “versions” of an object in a single bucket. When enabled, versioning allows MinIO AIStor to keep multiple iterations of the same object. Write operations which would normally overwrite an existing object instead result in the creation of a new version of the object. MinIO AIStor versioning protects from unintended overwrites and deletions while providing support for “undoing” a write operation. Bucket versioning is a prerequisite for configuring object locking and retention rules.

Use MinIO AIStor Object Lifecycle Management to create rules for time or date based automatic transition or expiry of objects. For object transition, MinIO AIStor automatically moves the object to a configured remote storage tier. For object expiry, MinIO AIStor automatically deletes the object. MinIO AIStor derives its behavior and syntax from S3 lifecycle for compatibility in migrating workloads and lifecycle rules from S3 to MinIO AIStor. For example, you can export S3 lifecycle management rules and import them into MinIO AIStor or vice-versa. MinIO AIStor uses JSON to describe lifecycle management rules and may require conversion to or from XML as part of importing S3 lifecycle rules.
